[it had been an interesting first week here in Luceti for one of the newcomers. between a birthday party, meeting gods and mortals alike from all sorts of different universes, realizing the gap between himself and his longtime rival and friend was a large one at that, and learning all that he needed to know about the Malnosso and the Third Party alike... Goku had one thing in mind. get stronger, learn the secrets of shifting and hopefully use that power against the ones keeping them here and against the enemies that would destroy him and his loved ones. nothing would ever sway him from that goal.

but right now he knew that it wouldn't be enough- with only half of his power at the ready, he needed to train harder. not only to catch up to Vegeta, but to retain that former strength he once had. it was going to take quite some time, but if anyone could make it happen, it was Goku. and right now he's currently sitting on the roof of the fourth community house, opening the journal and giving the people of Luceti a friendly grin]

Hey everyone! I don't think I've gotten a chance to meet everyone here yet, but my name is Goku! I've got a favor to ask if anyone would like to help me out here.

See, I'm going to train so that one day we can properly take out the Malnosso and the Third Party and I can't exactly do much by myself for long. I know we've got a long way to go and they're really dangerous, [as he got the gears from Saori for when he first arrived] but that's exactly why I want to be ready for them when it's time to save everyone.

So! Who wants to have a spar? I wouldn't mind testing myself against some of the other real strong fighters here. And if you're not that strong, that's fine too if you want someone to train with.

We're all in this together, after all!

[He wasn't, luckily enough for Goku. Welcome to Vegeta's living room, it's pretty plain and the house is rather small. There's an entrance to a parlor off the living room, a la Previous!Goku and Previous!Bulma, with the hallway to the bedrooms near that doorway.

He turns to his friend's sudden appearance, still looking quite stern.]

I can always count on you to make an entrance for yourself. Now, what were you saying before?

[and it doesn't take long for Goku to get into the thick of it. he wouldn't beat around the bush with Vegeta on this one. not when they could both benefit from this in the future someday. Saori had told him already just how difficult such a task would be. but that wouldn't stop him. he would never give up. and with that?]

Cliff told me about Shifting. It's what the Third Party likes to use and they're a real game changer. He told me not to quote him on this, but there's supposed to be about eight different spirits here in Luceti that could teach me about these techniques.

[he'd let Vegeta absorb that idea before Goku went on to explain]

Alright, listen. [He's going to set some things straight.]

Those shifting powers they have are part of the reason why they've lost their minds, it drives a person to insanity, from what I understand. And those spirits, if you manage to contact them, they grant you...magic.

[He spits the word out with disgust and toxicity. Vile, awful magic.]

Magic? [judging by the way that Vegeta sounded so bitter about the word, Goku didn't need much to put two and two together. so...he'll just compare it to someone else that wasn't Babidi!] You mean magic like Baba uses?

It's elemental magic, Kakarot. You know, like water, fire, electricity. Just to name a few. I had my own run in with those spirits a while back. If the darn thing hadn't possessed me and nearly burned our house down I might of actually liked adding fire blasts and other fire techniques to my arsenal. But I wasn't having any of that, oh no. The last thing I want is something inside me controlling me again.

[He's heard stories though. He's afraid one day he might have to pull his big boy pants up one day and learn to use the magic. But until it's proven he has to he isn't touching the stuff.]

Vegeta... [being controlled? he knows just how touchy that could be for Vegeta. it's something worth noting for Goku as well] I'm sorry. I didn't know you've had to put up with that kind of thing again.

But to be honest, they sound pretty useful if I can learn from them. You think they might know something about shifting powers too?

Even if they can't teach me, I can learn how to at least fight against them or something. [Goku heard his friend loud and clear about how dangerous the power was. but if anyone was used to dangerous powers and taking risks? it was the Saiyan standing before the Prince now. at least he knew more now]

Spare me your pity, Kakarot. You have no idea what I've had to deal with. [Anyway.]

Yes, the magic is useful. But the spirits, they don't speak. When Eferin was inside me, his will simply became my own. I didn't change, [Only because Eferin and Vegeta's personalities were pretty much the same,] I just had other priorities, which consisted of exterminating those who housed a dark spirit. I nearly killed a boy one of those nights. He was lucky.

But they aren't going to be able to tell you anything. And sometimes, Kakarot, you can't fight the shift they place on you. [He looks away. As if he's reliving an awful memory.] There was an incident here about a few months back. An invasion.

An invasion... By the Third Party?

...Yes. [It sounds pained.]

I'll never forgive them for what they did to us. Never.

[Goku is typically one of the most upbeat (if not giving off the illusion of blissful idiocy/ignorance) people out there, so it's not often that he doesn't try to make light of a situation. which is exactly why Vegeta will soon find himself with a firm, strong hand on his shoulder as Goku gives him a smile. a sympathetic smile. but there would be no more words of pity from his fellow Saiyan. the gravity of the situation was great. and while Goku was still interested in the concepts of shifting and the elemental magic that could aid him and the others one day,]

I guess I'm gonna have to look to you for support on this one, Vegeta. We're not giving up, but I know you know this place and what it can do to people no matter how strong they are.

I haven't experienced it yet, and I hope I never have to, but I promise not to get careless. For everyone's sake. It's not often we're fighting an uphill battle these days.

[He looks back up to his fellow Saiyan, somehow knowing that would be his response. It was never like Kakarot to give up, and if there was anything he's learned at all, it was that the two of them could overcome anything if they tried hard enough. Even when it looked bleak, Kakarot...he'd still managed to save them all.

He sighs, swiping the hand away off his shoulder.]

I know Kakarot, I know. When you do eventually see what it is to truly be helpless, you'll understand. They wiped our minds, replacing our lives with fabricated new ones. I didn't even know I was a Saiyan, and no amount of magic would of helped. [It seemed hopeless to him, sometimes.] And then they almost killed Bulla before my very eyes. Those twisted, warped shells of what was once a person, too far gone because of the power of this world. Learn all the magic you like. But swear to me you will not attempt to learn to shift, Kakarot. Promise me this.

[Really, he doesn't even know if any of them could learn at all. Or how to. But he really, really doesn't want Goku to even touch it.]

Ah...! [visible shock goes over his face as Vegeta elaborates further. shifting can do that to people? it was that bad? Goku wanted to be able to perhaps harness that power to one day use it against them. if there was no other hope for them. and yet hearing Vegeta say this to him. asking him to promise not to try and harness this power for himself...]

[on one hand, he didn't know if he could tell him. he wanted to know, but at the same time, he remembered what happened when he obtained the power of a god. some of that godlike feeling still lingered with him to this day, and yet,]

It really wouldn't be my power that saves everyone in the end, huh?

[he clenches his fists by his side as he gives his old friend a stern look]

I promise, Vegeta.

But understand, if I'm going to keep this promise, I'm going to train even harder. If I can't use the power to shift, I'll just have to surpass it all myself. Until I'm stronger then they are, and everyone else here.

No matter how long it takes, I'm going to end all of this.

You don't understand, Kakarot. Even though it's important we improve our strength everyday, doing it in the means that we're used to isn't going to cut it. We can be rendered useless, with no means to even transform into a Super Saiyan, or blast anything. I've been left with nothing but the mere muscle on my bones, reduced to a weakling, no stronger than that loudmouthed idiot who claims to be the World Champion. Do not misunderstand, I plan on using my full power while it's available to me. But I can't rely on it anymore.

I've started to take up new methods, ones that prepare me for powerless fights. I've even picked up learning to use a sword, and I'm still trying to find alternate ways of fighting. So no, your power, even as a Super Saiyan God; it means nothing here. I know that isn't what you wanted to hear, but it is the truth. You know I wouldn't joke around about this.

[It was a hard reality to learn, but after being here for nearly a year, he's learned. Strength comes in different shapes and sizes in Luceti.]

What I'm saying is that you better have a pretty good backup plan than using our normal energy to fight. Because it isn't going to help you in a lot of situations. Don't you look at me like that, I've been working just as hard if not harder to train and prepare myself. I've just had to do it in different ways, is all. You just don't know because you haven't experienced it yet!

What would you say if I told you that not only does the power of this world drive men to insanity, that is also keeps the dead from staying dead. It's a war, Kakarot! A war that we can't even eliminate our enemies unless we bomb them with a shift bomb that creates a dead zone that doesn't allow them to come back for hundreds of years! And then! They'll still come back! How do you plan on fighting that?! Answer me that!

[he's taken aback when Vegeta snaps at him like that. granted he's used to it, but the gravity of the conversation is on an entirely different level. he doesn't try to interject either, especially when Vegeta makes mention of the shift bomb and a dead zone. he knew what Vegeta was trying to do now. truth be told, if he didn't have Vegeta to ground him in the first place? he may have been in far more trouble than he realized. by this point the idea of shifting was becoming even more of a brutal last resort instead of a technique he would have liked to own. he didn't have an answer. a true one for him]

I'm sorry. I might have jumped the gun, and I know that you've been trying hard. You're even stronger then I am.

You're right though. I don't have a backup plan. Not yet anyway... But I know that there's gotta be a way to win, without shifting and even if our normal means of fighting won't do it. That's why I'm going to figure out what it'll take someday.

[Goku says this without any sort of doubt in his mind. and without implying that Vegeta hadn't been trying either. if anything, they could do it together]

If the techniques I know now won't help us win, I'll just have to learn new ones that will. [ones that WEREN'T shifting]
