001; [Accidental Video & Action] • Action In CH #4 - Floor 3 Kitchen

[most newcomers to the realm of Luceti would be more concerned or focused on trying to leave this place or find answers. not to say that this certain resident hadn't checked out everything there was about this place after shortly arriving. he'd learned to leave those little wings on his back alone too after trying to give them a little tug and smarting more than he expected. but sometimes there was just some things that a man had to take care of that just couldn't wait. and what was that, someone might ask?]

Om nom nomph--mmm..! Mm!! Snarf--

[having set his journal down in front of him, a newcomer didn't quite anticipate that the video portion would be on at this point when he set it down. must have been a slip of the finger. but slowly but surely...]

NOM NOM NYORM... Aahhhooomp--

BUUURP!!

Hoo!! Man that hit the spot! A moment later and I might have starved to death!

[the fridge on the floor Goku's on in his apartment may or may not look a little...ahem...barren. sorry. excluding what he picked up on the way back. patting his stomach and wiping his mouth, he reaches for the journal now and looks into it. oh, it was on? he's not that technologically dumb thanks to the Briefs family, so he knows the video's on. but he didn't quite figure out that it recorded his entire dining escapade either]

Right... Now that I can think straight,

I'm supposed to be able to use this thing to talk to other people here, right? Guess that means I wasn't the only one taken away... I can't sense anyone's energy back home. Instant Transmission doesn't work either.

Uh, hey, you guys can see me, right? In the book?

[he's not weirded out by this concept either. nope. totally normal]

Well before I make my next move, I should get the facts straight and find out if everything I've seen and been told is real or not.

[and just to prove that point, Goku's already going out the nearest window, again leaving the mess he left behind for now. he'll be back ~~to heckle Vegeta~~ in a short bit]

[he closes the book and hops straight out the window. he wasn't certain where her energy signal was coming from since there were quite a few powerful forces here, but so long as he just went south...]

[aaand he's off. boy is he off. if there was an energy source to lock onto he would have just used instant transmission, but for now he's just gonna break the sound barrier and others (but not the one they're going to) as he flies with a bright white aura around his body]

[No point in bothering with a response, she just hops off the roof and makes her way south. It's not that fast, no reason to hurry, and she arrives in about twenty minutes. Of course, she's not flying the same way, she's seated on a cloud that's driving lazily along underneath her. Goku's not hard to spot, really and she drifts down to him.]

Good afternoon, Goku. I hope you weren't waiting too long. I didn't see the point in hurrying.

[Goku was about a two miles distance from the actual physical point of the barrier. ...enough distance for a blast or two no doubt. when he can sense the godly ki of Saori coming from a distance behind him, he turns around. fortunately he hadn't been waiting too long. so he can't help but offer her an energetic wave]

Heeey! Saori! You made it!

[as he flies over to meet her, he couldn't help but notice that she was riding on a cloud...]

Is that a Nimbus cloud?

[Well, when she comes down, there's definitely a flicker of interest in her eyes too. She doesn't sense ki the same way, but she does sense magical and divine energy. And he's got a hint of the touch of divinity on him. Probably from that Bills character, and something she'll be keeping an eye on.

She rides up beside him and hops off, waving cheerily.]

No, it's a cumulus cloud. A nimbus cloud would've wet my dress, so it doesn't really make fora great seat, now does it?

Really? I didn't notice getting wet when I rode Nimbus. [ahhh nostalgia]

It's nice to meet you in person, Saori. [he inclines his head]

So this is it... [he looks back to the barrier holding them in. he's confident, but at the same time he's assessing the best way to start breaking this]

Well, nimbus clouds are rainclouds, so maybe the one you rode was just special. But it is nice to meet you too. And it's a fine day for a ride out.

[...yet another parallel to Cousin Goku...weird.

She turns her attention to the barrier too, eyes distant, her nose upturned in irritation.]

Yes, this is it. There's no gaps or seams or anything that anyone's found. So. I guess this is as good a place as any.

Right.

[suddenly, Goku's aura flares around him once more, bursting off with incredible speed as he reaches the barrier. yeah he kinda did this without so much of a warning. all it took was a blink and he was already lunging fist-first into the barrier]

HYAAH!!

[BOOM! the force of the blow is enough that it seems to cause the surrounding ground to tremor for a fraction of a second. but more importantly is the fact that Goku is simply staying there with his fist slammed into the barrier. a great poker face. ...when suddenly,]

O-Ow!!

Hoo...that smarts. I've hit things that can hold up to my punches, but that thing is solid!

[he waves his hand. that one kinda smarted]

[The goddess watches, arms folded in front of her, expression placid and tranquil. He's strong like Vegeta of course, and he's fast. But, she knows better than to hope too much.

When he comes away her lip twitches and she resists the urge to laugh. He really is a goofball...]

It is, isn't it.

[She raises a hand, flicking her fingers towards it and unleashes a torrent of lightning the size of a bus at it. It strike the barrier with a crackling, popping sound, but it's absorbed just like the blow from his fist.]

And it's equally resistant to magic.

GAH!!

[he's kinda taken aback when Saori launches her massive lightning at the barrier, flying back even though he wasn't in the line of fire]

That's some attack! I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that.

[She twitches her fingers and lets a few sparks dance along them, showing off just a bit.]

It's just a big of sorcery. Nothing too special, but thank you. Maybe we could try it together, if you like. I can lend you some of my Anima, if you're good at energy projection.

Sure! If it'll help me push the limits this place put on me, it's worth a try. If Anima is anything like ki, I'll appreciate the boost.

[on that remark, Goku slowly begins to float backwards, gaining some distance between himself and the barrier. Vegeta couldn't do it... there were others that were extremely powerful here and they failed too. so why? why did Son Goku insist on trying even though many others before him couldn't do it?]

[this was more than just trying to take down the barrier. he didn't have to say anything about his intentions when his actions would speak far louder. what was he telling the ones that bound him here? to the people that sent children off to die in battle in pointless strifes... to his future enemies. what did he hope to accomplish by failing to take the barrier down?]

!!!

[Goku's body was almost immediately enveloped by a brilliant golden light, hair standing on end as a focused golden aura flared around him. the message was clear- Luceti had a true fighter on their hands. someone who would never give up. he would get stronger and break the limits placed on him, and in the end, surpass himself. it wasn't about beating this place. it was conquering himself. his hair followed suit, gravity-defying blond spikes completing the transformation. if Saori was familiar with Vegeta, no doubt she must have known that the man before her was a Super Saiyan; one of the first in almost a thousand years]

Ready, Saori?

[The change in the Saiyans was always interesting, at the very least. The ridiculous alterations to their hair aside, the importance Vegeta had placed on the transformation was almost religious and that was something easy to relate to. There was a sense of reverence and a palpable pressure around Vegeta, and Goku too, that was simply unmistakable.

Her hands flick in a series of complex gestures, and around her feet a semi-solid corona of power takes shape. Her Anima isn't really all that different from Ki, and it's something she and Bulla had practiced sharing. The lending and borrowing of the inner life-energy wasn't something that occurred to Saori before, but after experimenting she and the girl had managed to figure out how to do it. So, that corona shimmers and flows towards Goku, merging with his aura and suffusing it with sparks of blue white lightning...]

Done.

[it was amusing the way that Goku and Vegeta's reverence of the Super Saiyan differed. he understood the importance of it, but he didn't ascend to this level out of a need to realize the legend, but because his pure heart was critically wounded by Frieza. the pain and suffering had to stop. there was no other way... since then, this has been his most trusted transformation, but far from the pinnacle of his prowess. this would do just fine for now though. Goku wanted to show this world he wasn't going to take the suffering lying down. this was a test above all else. and when he felt the Anima merge in with his aura, he felt his power level spike. it wasn't too significant considering the fact they were both being hampered, but between the remnants of his godly Ki and her own divine offering, he looked down to one of his hands as lightning trickled along his fingertips. it was so natural to him. so easy]

Thanks, Saori. You're the best. Now...

[if she hadn't done such already, she may have wanted to pull back with him]

KAAA MEEE...

[his arms by his side, the latent power in his body was being focused. his aura was growing wilder and his power level was rising as he briefly chanted. suddenly, it appeared. only this time instead of showing as a simple bluish-white orb of energy, it was complimented by the same blue and white sparks that Saori's Anima provided him with]

HAAA MEEE...!

[now or never. Anima Kamehameha!]

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

[the undying storm, an unrelenting torrent of power, Goku fires the blast directly at the barrier before them. instead of bouncing off or exploding however, the end of the beam flattens against the wall, creating an effect similar to if one was met with a clashing force, as if he was in a clashing beam struggle. it wasn't giving one inch, but Goku continued to put out force as the Kamehameha Wave flowed with lightning around the beam, signs of Saori's strength at work]

AAAAAAAHHHHHH--!!!!

[this continued on for a good minute as Goku pushed and pushed until finally, the attack finally gave way and instead of trying to penetrate, it exploded in front of them. the surrounding area seemed to quiver at the aftershock as smoke filled the immediate area. his vision was lost beneath the smoke for the time being, but he could still sense Saori's energy close to him]

...

[despite the force of the blast, he didn't seem winded at all, only a couple beads of sweat rolling down the Super Saiyan's forehead. it was disappointing, but even he knew that he was weaker now. but still...was it enough? the smoke finally cleared and before them was the barrier, as impervious as ever, but not without effort]

Oh wow. I didn't know if I was gonna do it or not, but I at least expected a crack or something.

[Well, Saori's smart enough to move back away from him as he gathers up energy. She's drifted a dozen meters away or so, and she's watching with mild interest at the attempt. It's not that it isn't impressive, because quite frankly it is pretty amazing to see that much Anima coming out of a mortal. She's forced to shield her eyes from the sheer force of the blast, a reflex from her mortal life, but with a simple gesture a barrier of solid air deflects any debris and keeps her looking neat and tidy.

Another whisper of power clears away all the smoke, allowing them to speak normally.]

I'm sorry, that was a good try, but...well...as I said. It's not something brute force can really break down. It can be done from the outside through Shifting, the natural magic of this world, but only the Malnosso and the Third Party can really use that. Nobody here knows much about it, but we've been invaded once or twice.

[and just like that, Goku powers down as if he hadn't just attempted a foolish stunt. a little sigh of relief as his base form showed less strain, he turns back to Saori. he wanted to test this, and even with her help it wasn't enough. he could have taken it to the next level, perhaps even further beyond, but Goku knew he could come back later and try another time. the more information he gathered about this world before making his move (he had the time it seemed), the better]

I'll keep trying another time. But...tell me more about this 'Shifting'. If you can, I mean. I know not a lot of people know much about it.

[She doesn't tell him to stop, even though it's a waste. If he gets out, he gets out. Great!]

Well, Shifting is something done here, in Luceti. There are three different kinds: Natural, which is just a part of this world, Synthesized or artificial, like the barrier here, and Progressive. These are used by the Third Party.

The barrier's Shift is meant to keep us in, and the dangerous natural shifts of the planet as well as the Third Party out. The Malnosso use synthesized shifting as well. They alter things in the enclosure with it. If you blow up a house, it'll reform in a few hours, they shift in food and supplies to us, and they use it for their experiments. Where they change us or...do things to us.

[For the first time, her demeanor cracks and her expression ends up somewhere between anger and sadness. She's furious that they've done this to her, and people here. But she's equally sad, because of the oftentimes painful shifts.]

[he absorbs this information as best as he can. he'll have to either ask again later or even write this down. Shifting was a magic of this world...and there were three different styles of it. Goku couldn't get ahead of himself, but he wasn't going to forget this concept any time soon. when he notices that Saori's expression has faltered, he hesitates for a moment or two...]

Saori...

[that was when the God would feel a firm hand upon her shoulder and a confident smile from the Saiyan warrior. what he's about to say is without a single shred of doubt in his heart and mind. even if he couldn't do it now...or if it took a long time... this place needed some hope]

If this isn't going to work, I'll just have to learn how to Shift. Even if it takes me a long time, if that's the way we can save everyone from this place, I'll do it.

[The god reaches her hand up to wrap around his arm, and her expression darkens for an instant.]

Forgive me for saying it, Goku. But this is not going to work. And it's not going to stop without a lot of hard work and information gathering. We want the barrier here, in all honesty. Because the Third Party will overrun us if it isn't. And they'll kill us, no matter how strong we are.

But that's not the only challenge. We need to find out why the world is taking people here, and stop that. Or we could go home only to return. Escape isn't as important as stopping all of it. I don't doubt that together we'll find a way. All of us here in Luceti. It's a mystery as much as it is a war.

[There's an underlying current to her voice, like someone who's felt this firsthand. She won't explain how she knows this, that's between her and Vegeta for now.

And then her face breaks into a solemn smile.]

We'll manage. I have no doubt about that. It's just important that you understand patience is required. And it's not something you can do alone. Vegeta's learned that lesson as well. There will be times when it doesn't matter how strong you are. Don't underestimate them. That's all I'm saying.

Uh...? [he's a bit surprised when her expression darkens for that moment and she explains just how dire the situation was. she knew of his strength. she had seen Vegeta's as well. and she was a God herself. did that mean that the Third Party was just that strong? did they even dwarve Lord Bills in power? Goku was finding it hard to believe that they were that much more powerful that the barrier was actually a blessing in disguise. ...this was why she came with him, wasn't it? to make sure that he was made aware of the seriousness of the situation. of course, he was taking it all seriously, but at the same time...]

I don't plan on going it alone. Don't worry about that. When the time comes and we find a way to put an end to all of this, you can count on me to be on the front line.

[he won't mention the part about wanting to challenge one of the Third Party foes just to test himself, since he supposed this was a good enough effort for the time being]

I've got a better idea of what I'm up against now because of you. So thank you.

[with that? have a bright and cheerful grin]

Wanna head back for now?

No Goku. [She stops, squeezing his arm with supernatural strength. She really, really wants him to understand. Being bright and optimistic is good, she is too now that there are more powerful warriors here. But...something about him just doesn't seem to quite get it.]

You really don't have any idea what you'll be fighting. You can't just...battle them like in a war or in a tournament. They don't fight like that. I don't want to harp on it but I want to just impress on you what I'm saying. They can take away your power. They can turn your mind in on itself and trap you in a dream. They can use your blood to control your body, and they don't die.

Nobody here dies, not really. If you're killed, you'll return in a week with a bit of yourself taken away for a time. Them included. Only...they have some way of sacrificing us, killing us forever. So we don't come back. They're a cult of fanatics, and they are all insane. I've met them, fought them, I've been forced to work with them against a fourth party.

[She lets go now, but she's probably squeezed hard enough to have left red marks on his arm.]

And we can. But...there's something I want to ask you.

Ah-- [instead of protest or tell her to let him go, he listens yet again. that grin of his was almost completely gone now. she was frightened in a sense... was that what he was feeling? was this what the world had done to beings like her and Vegeta? for some reason it's enough to make him tremble too. not out of the gravity of the situation, but of the challenge being presented before him. never before was there a challenge he couldn't face. not until Lord Bills humbled him. but Goku knew that when there was far more on the line, with hope in his eyes and fire in his heart, he couldn't lose]

Saori...

[his gaze settles on his arm where she had clutched him so tightly, as if contemplating something]

Maybe I'm not ready for them now. And maybe I won't be ready for a long time. It must have been hard for you to have to endure all of that suffering.

[he says this as if to acknowledge what she was saying. he wasn't recklessly casting aside her wishes for him to listen. it was apparent now. they were strong. far more powerful than Majin Buu and if their powers were any indication, even stronger than Bills was. fighting them head-on, the Saiyan felt he could have made a difference. but it went beyond that. manipulating them from within... it wasn't something that even the strongest Super Saiyan could fight. not at his level. he was never going to forget how tightly Saori held on to him, as if she were pleading with him to not go. and yet...]

But that's the reason why I have to do this. This isn't just my fight, but everyone's. This is my way of playing a small part in something far bigger.

[one of these days he would fight fire with fire. even if Saori didn't believe in him now or was disappointed in him, nothing would ever sway him from his decision. he wasn't going to attack them head on now. that much was made clear to him by this point. if he let himself think any different... he would disgrace the very methods he was taught by his grandfather. this injustice couldn't go unpunished. he wasn't just the defender of Earth anymore. he was the hope of the universe]

It'll be alright. I promise.
